How to Get Iron in Enshrouded: Easy, Fast Farming Tips for All Player Levels

If you’ve spent even a few hours grinding through Enshrouded’s early game, you know the second you hit level 10, your old stone and copper tools start feeling useless. Every new armor set, better weapon, and upgrade for your base suddenly requires stacks of iron, and if you don’t know where to look, you can waste hours wandering empty biomes for a handful of ore. I’ve spent 40+ hours testing every iron farming route in the game, and I’m breaking down exactly how to get iron in Enshrouded without dying every five minutes or wasting your limited shroud time.

How to Get Iron in Enshrouded: Core Pre-Requisites First

You might be tempted to run straight to the first iron spot you see on your map, but if you show up without the right tools, you’ll be stuck staring at a vein you can’t mine. That means your first stop before any farming run should be your workbench to make sure your pickaxe is in good shape, and you have enough healing items to get you through any unexpected fights with shrouded creatures.

The first non-negotiable item you need is a copper pickaxe or better. Stone pickaxes won’t even register a hit on iron veins, so if you haven’t crafted one yet, grab 3 copper bars and 2 pieces of sturdy wood to make one in 60 seconds. You should also unlock the Reveal Ore Shrine upgrade for your map as soon as possible, it highlights all nearby ore veins so you don’t have to stumble around looking for them hidden under foliage.

You don’t need top tier gear to farm iron, but having at least 4 minutes of shroud time will open up most of the early game iron spots. If your shroud time is lower than that, stick to surface spawns first, no need to risk dying and losing all your collected ore.

Best Iron Spawn Locations for New Players

A lot of new players assume iron only spawns deep in dangerous shroud zones, but that’s not true. There are dozens of easy-to-reach spots for players under level 10 that don’t require fighting any high level enemies or burning through all your shroud time.

The best spot for brand new players is the abandoned mine north of the Braelynwood Homestead. The mine sits in a level 8 shroud zone, so even with base shroud time you’ll have more than enough to clear all the veins inside. There are 16 iron veins scattered through the mine, plus a chest at the back that regularly spawns pre-smelted iron bars and extra coal for smelting. I brought my level 7 alt there last week to stock up on iron for early upgrades, and I didn’t take a single point of damage the whole run.

If you don’t want to go into the shroud at all, head to the small ridge west of the Revelwood Spire. All the iron veins here spawn on the open, unshrouded hillside, and you can collect 20+ ore in five minutes without running into any enemies stronger than a basic wolf. The only downside is these veins respawn a little slower than ones in shroud zones, so you can only farm this spot once every 45 minutes or so.

Fast Iron Farming Routes for Bulk Stockpiles

Once you hit level 12, have an iron pickaxe, and have at least 10 minutes of shroud time, you can use this repeatable loop to collect 300+ iron ore per 12 minute run. I use this route whenever I need to stock up for base upgrades or new gear sets, and it’s far faster than wandering random biomes looking for scattered veins.

  • Start at the Revelwood Spire fast travel point, and head southwest into the level 10 shroud zone, hugging the western cliff edge. Mine the 8 surface iron veins you’ll find along the first 200 meters of the path, they’re all out in the open so you don’t have to dig for them.
  • Cut east into the small cave system half a kilometer from the spire, clear the 12 iron veins inside, and loot the two chests by the back wall for extra bars and coal to smelt your ore later. There are only 2 low level shroud mobs inside, you can run past them if you don’t want to fight.
  • Exit the cave and head north back to the spire, mining the 7 scattered iron veins on the open hillside above the cave entrance before you fast travel back to your base. None of these veins are in the shroud, so you can take your time if you’re running low on shroud time.

So if you need 500 iron to upgrade your armor set for a boss fight, you can run this route twice in less than half an hour, and you’ll have more than enough. Always bring a stack of coal with you when you farm, so you can smelt your iron bars immediately when you get back to base without making extra trips for fuel.

Common Iron Farming Mistakes to Avoid

I see so many new players make the same mistakes when farming iron, and they end up wasting hours of time for almost no reward. These small fixes will cut your farming time in half and stop you from losing all your hard earned ore.

The biggest mistake is heading into high level shroud zones for iron before you have enough shroud time. The Kindlewastes border has tons of iron veins, but if you only have 3 minutes of shroud time, you’ll die before you can mine even 10 ore, and you’ll lose everything you collected. Stick to lower level zones until you’ve upgraded your shroud time to at least 10 minutes, it’ll save you a ton of frustration.

Another common mistake is using a copper pickaxe for large farming runs. Copper pickaxes break twice as fast as iron pickaxes, so you’ll waste resources replacing them mid-run, and they mine iron 30% slower. Spend the 10 iron needed to make an iron pickaxe before you start bulk farming, it pays for itself in one run.

Never leave your iron ore unprotected in your inventory when you’re exploring high level zones. If you die, you lose all of it, so stow it in a nearby chest or fast travel back to base as soon as you hit a full stack. I learned this the hard way when I died right after collecting 200 ore on my first run, I didn’t make that mistake again.

At the end of the day, learning how to get iron in Enshrouded doesn’t have to be a frustrating grind, as long as you come prepared, stick to routes that match your current level, and avoid the common mistakes that waste hours of your time. Once you have a solid stockpile of iron, you’ll be able to unlock all the best gear, upgrade your base to survive late game threats, and spend more time enjoying the parts of the game you actually care about, instead of running around looking for ore.
