If you’ve spent dozens of hours exploring Enshrouded’s sprawling, mist-covered open world, you’ve probably stumbled into more than one surprise boss fight that sent you back to your last flame altar with empty pockets and a bruised ego. One of the most common questions new and returning players ask is how many bosses Enshrouded has, and whether there are hidden foes you’re missing as you work your way through the biomes. We’ve put in over 80 hours of playtime across early access and full release to map every boss, track their spawn locations, and test the most reliable strategies to take them down.
How Many Bosses Enshrouded Has: Full Breakdown By Type
As of the latest content update, there are 31 unique boss encounters in Enshrouded, split across four distinct categories that scale with your character level and progression. You don’t have to beat every single one to finish the main story, but missing the optional encounters means you’ll pass up tons of rare crafting materials, exclusive blueprints, and endgame gear that makes later content far less frustrating. Each boss type fits into a specific part of the game’s progression loop, so you’ll naturally run into most of them as you explore.
That means if you’re playing solo, it’s worth tracking down regional minibosses as you unlock new biomes, instead of rushing straight through dungeon quests. The gear you get from these small fights will make the mandatory dungeon bosses feel far more manageable, and you won’t have to grind regular enemies for hours to get the materials you need for upgrades. I skipped most minibosses on my first playthrough, and I spent three hours stuck on the second Shroud dungeon boss because my gear was 10 levels under the recommended threshold.
How To Find All Hidden Enshrouded Bosses
When I first played through Enshrouded, I missed almost half the regional minibosses because I stuck to the main quest markers and avoided wandering off the beaten path. The easiest way to track down hidden bosses is to activate every flame altar you find as you explore. Each altar reveals points of interest in a 500-meter radius, including boss spawn locations marked with a red skull icon on your map. You don’t have to unlock the altar’s full upgrade to reveal the surrounding area, just light it once and the icons will stay on your map permanently.
Some bosses are hidden deep in high-level Shroud zones that you can’t access until you upgrade your flame to the required level. For example, the Blighted Wyrm boss is hidden in the level 5 Shroud zone in the northern mountain biome, which you can’t enter without a level 4 flame upgrade. If you see a red skull icon on your map that’s covered by a dark Shroud fog overlay, that means you need to upgrade your flame first before you can reach it.
If you play co-op, you can join a friend’s game to access boss locations they’ve already unlocked, even if you haven’t progressed to that biome yet. You can check a boss’s recommended level by hovering over its map icon, so you’ll never accidentally walk into a fight you can’t win. It’s still worth going to higher-level boss spawns with friends, though, because the gear drops will give you a huge boost for your own playthrough.
Pro Tips For Beating Every Enshrouded Boss Fight
Fighting bosses in Enshrouded is far less frustrating if you come prepared, instead of rushing in as soon as you find a spawn. I’ve tested every boss both solo and in 4-player co-op, so these tips work for every playstyle, no matter what class you main. First, always bring at least two types of elemental damage with you. Most bosses have a weakness to either fire, frost, or lightning, and using the right element can cut your fight time in half.
All Shroud-origin bosses are weak to fire, so stock up on fire arrows and fire-infused melee weapons before you head into any Shroud dungeon. Frost damage works best on overworld bosses in the desert and mountain biomes, and lightning is ideal for mechanical bosses found in ancient ruins. If you’re playing a mage build, keep at least two different elemental staves on your hotbar so you can switch mid-fight if you realize you’re using the wrong damage type.
If you’re playing solo, always carry a shield with 100% physical damage block, even if you main a ranged or mage build. Most bosses have one or two unblockable charge attacks, but the rest of their hits can be absorbed with a good shield, which saves you from wasting healing potions mid-fight. You don’t need to invest any skill points in shield use to get the full block benefit, so it’s a low-effort way to make every fight easier.
Never fight a world or raid boss without at least three healing potions per player, even if you’re overleveled for the encounter. All bosses have a chance to trigger an enraged state when they drop below 20% HP, where their attack speed and damage doubles with no warning. I’ve had multiple runs wiped because I thought I could finish a boss off with one more hit, only to get one-shot by its enraged charge attack before I could drink a potion. If you’re playing co-op, assign one player to focus on healing and crowd control, so the rest of the group can focus on dealing damage without worrying about watching their HP.
Are More Bosses Coming To Enshrouded In Future Updates?
The Enshrouded dev team has confirmed that they’re planning to add at least 12 new boss encounters over the next 12 months, including new raid bosses tied to upcoming story expansions and seasonal events. They’ve also teased new hidden boss variants that will only spawn during specific in-game weather conditions, like thunderstorms or blizzards, which will drop exclusive cosmetic items you can’t get anywhere else. These variants will have modified mechanics that make them more challenging than their base versions, so they’re targeted at players who have already beaten all existing content.
Two new biomes are also in development, each with their own set of regional minibosses, Shroud dungeon bosses, and world bosses. I tested a prototype of the upcoming frozen tundra biome’s first dungeon boss on the public test server recently, and it’s one of the most creative fights the team has made so far, with mechanics that force you to balance dealing damage and melting ice patches that build up on the arena floor. If you’ve already cleared all 31 existing bosses, you won’t have to wait long for new content to tackle.
The dev team has also said they’re adjusting boss scaling for solo players based on community feedback, so lower-level bosses will feel less spongy for players who prefer to play alone, without making them too easy for co-op groups. These changes will roll out alongside the first batch of new bosses in the next major content update.
At the end of the day, how many bosses Enshrouded has right now is just the starting point for what’s coming next. Whether you’re a solo player working your way through the main story or a co-op group grinding for endgame gear, taking the time to track down and beat every boss is one of the most rewarding parts of the game. Don’t be afraid to walk away from a fight if you’re underleveled, come back with better gear, and you’ll be able to clear every encounter without unnecessary frustration.
